Missing Creative Writing
Cliffside Park High School has a lot of changes such as personal use of Chromebooks, new teachers and, most importantly, and new courses. Most that are beneficial like “Senior Seminar” teaches us how to prepare for college. However, one class that is completely overlooked, and extremely beneficial, is Creative Writing.
I took this class Sophomore year and it completely changed my writing style. What really impacted me was poetry from the first half of the year. Ms. Woodley was the teacher in charge of this class. She taught us to really dig deep into our emotions and writing styles to help students create strong poetry and short stories and help them become strong writers.
At this point, many may be wondering why should I even be interested in this class being missing since I already took it and it's only for people who want to be writers or are artistic. That is not true at all because it isn’t the meaning behind the poem that is constantly critiqued all year, but the structure and strong value it holds, which is what every written piece consists of. Creative Writing was just as important as any other English class, not only because it taught a student how to write, but it also because it helped create a confident person who isn’t afraid of their emotions and could write them in a beautiful way.
