A Letter from The Student Council President for Hispanic History Month
September 15th - October 15th marked this year's Hispanic History month, and I would like to take this occasion to honor the closing of this great time period. I think this month is important for many reasons, but there is one reason that stands out to me, to recognize the important role Hispanics play in our society.
Whether they teach our youth or attend our classes, whether they play as fellow athletes or act as our administrators, represent us in government or serve in our military, lead charitable efforts or leading us as CEOs, preach as rabbis, imams, or priests, or whether they do anything else to help our communities and our nation, our Hispanic brothers and sisters have long deserved this level of recognition.
I am, and will always be, proud to celebrate the diversity of Hispanic heritage with you all. Our Hispanic communities and leaders have helped produce and inspire the best of us, as well as people all around the world. They remind us of the lesson of history that states: we will never find strength in any form of division, rather we will always find strength in our unity.
This is why we are proud to be a melting pot of different backgrounds. While it is not always guaranteed that there will be tolerance and acceptance everywhere in the world, it will always be true, like the words of the Declaration of Independence state, “all men are created equal” and they have inalienable rights as equals because of that. So as we conclude this month, my single message to my Hispanic peers is to say thank you and I sincerely hope you have had a wonderful Hispanic History month.
