Think Your Life Is Weird? Try Stranger Things!

Has your world been turned upside-down by strange things? Then you should watch Stranger Things, the science fiction-horror and drama series on Netflix. Written and produced by the Duffer Brothers, it was inspired by a classic genre of 1980s films, particularly those of Steven Spielberg and John Carpenter, as well as the novels of Stephen King.

The first season premiered on July 15, 2016 and consists of eight episodes. The season received much acclaim for its directing, acting, title sequence, and synth-heavy score. The show takes place in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana in 1983.

The first season focuses on the investigation of the disappearance of a young boy, Will Byers, during supernatural events occurring around the town and in an alternate dimension which they call “ the Upside Down.” Accessible only by portal, it runs directly below Hawkins.

Viewers are introduced to a girl, Eleven, with psychokinetic abilities who helps the motley crew of boys which she considers her friends conduct a search for the missing boy. After so much popularity with the first season, and only one month later, the show was renewed for a second season.

Titled Stranger Things 2 and consisting of nine episodes, season 2 was released on October 27 of this year. The new season fast forwards one year later and deals with attempts of the characters returning to normal and the consequences that echo from the first season. Stranger Things became the most tweeted about show following its Season 2 premiere. It generated more than 3.7 million tweets.

Earlier this year, “13 Reasons Why” was the most-tweeted about show of 2017, but it looks like “Stranger Things” has stolen the crown. Season 3 has not been officially announced by Netflix, however, it has been confirmed by the Duffer Brothers in interviews.

Judging by the 15 month time gap between seasons 1 and 2, it is expected to come out at the end of 2018. It is likely to be set at least one year after the conclusion of season 2, but possibly even further into the future because the kids have matured tremendously since the first season. Just how long will Stranger Things be happening? Based on comments made by the show’s producers, the entire story will most likely be completed after four seasons.
