Assemblyman Timothy Eustace Visits CPHS
On December 5, assemblyman Timothy Eustace came to speak to the members of the GSA Club. The GSA Club, including Mrs. Henry and Mr. Aiello as advisors, is an alliance for LGBT+ students and their straight allies. The assembly was organized to show the students that though assemblyman Eustace is a member of the LGBT+ community, he is able to excel highly as a humanitarian even as he has faced discrimination.
Timothee Eustace, an everyday chiropractor who in the legislative service since 2012, spoke of how he came to work through his s
exuality in the past. He also described how he told his family and how they dealt with this news. He spoke of himself and his partner, who were among the first homosexual couples to adopt in New Jersey, and his children who have the AIDS virus. Mr. Eustace then went on to explain his projects in Africa he goes to every year where he and many volunteers aim to build schools and generally make lives better for the inhabitants. (If interested in helping out his project, you can email his office at asmeustace@njleg.org)
There was also time for questions from the members of the GSA Club for assemblyman Eustace. He gave advice to students lost in their own ways with their families in regard to their issues with coming out. Their were also students who had questions about how to deal with discrimination which he had very helpful words to say. He communicated with the few students not in GSA that also came to the assembly. The aspect of talking to an actual assemblyman was enough motivation for them to come, obviously!
The GSA Club and CPHS as a whole would like to give the grandest thank you to Mr. Timothy Eustace for coming to our school and speaking to the students. His words carried a great weight and the experience is one that will be hard to forget!
