Resolve to BE BETTER

Many people’s new year resolutions are making peace with their family, eating healthy or simply paying it forward. However, what you should really focus on is simply being kind.

You think that it won’t make a difference because it’s only you, yet, it will in the grand scheme of life. Don’t worry whether it’s going to make a difference or not. Even though this world is in need of a lot of fixing, you could start by making sure that the person beside you is comfortable.

You should make sure that the people in your own home are happy. If anyone needs help, you should help them. You don’t know how much a simple gesture can change someone’s life. Kindness can mean many different things. It can mean to say “please” and “thank you”, it can mean to play fair, it can mean to work hard, it can mean to tell the truth, it can mean to do the right thing, it can mean to do one’s best, it can mean to never give up, it can mean to ask questions, it can mean to participate, it can mean to spread knowledge, it can mean to erase something that you think will make a person sad, it can mean to give money to the poor, or it can mean a simple smile.

Kindness is a hug, handshake, or a song that you sing to a child. Another resolution you should make and keep is to stop wasting time. You probably heard it before, but you are going to hear it again because it’s true. We have only a short time on this earth. The bulk of our time will be working to earn our living. Our childhood flies by because “Time flies when you’re having fun”. After work, it’s time to retire and who knows how many years we have in retirement. Some people don’t even reach the retirement age.

The point is a resolution should be to not waste time and to do what makes you happy and the world better than when you came to it. If you don’t know what makes you happy, start experimenting! You will be surprised at what you may discover about yourself.
