Land day (Yom-Al Ard)
Land day is a day revived by the Palestinians on March 30th of each year. People read about nature and learn about it and about the environment and the earth more on this day. Some of them plant trees in places suitable for agriculture, and some of them raise awareness of the importance of preserving the land, and protect the land from abusers whether through communication with school students, university students, or even employees of private and government institutions and companies.
The events of March 1976, when Israeli authorities confiscated thousands of dunums of privately owned or communal land within the borders of areas with a Palestinian majority, have been the inspiration for this focus. In response to the seizure of land, there was a general strike and marches from Galilee to the Negev, and clashes broke out which resulted in the deaths of six Palestinians and hundreds wounded and arrested.
The government's decision to confiscate the land was accompanied by a curfew on the villages of Sakhnin, Arrabeh, Deir Hanna, Tar'an, Tamra and Kabul from 5 pm on March 29, 1976. Arab leaders of the Israeli Communist Party, such as Tawfiq Ziad, who also served as mayor of Nazareth, called for a day of public strikes and protests against land confiscation, held on March 30th.
Land Day is a pivotal event in the conflict and relationship between Arab citizens and the Israeli political body. This was the first time since 1948 that Arabs in Palestine organized protests in response to Israeli policies as a collective Palestinian movement. The day came to be known as Yom -AL Ard or Land Day. Palestinians commemorate it to demonstrate their commitment to the right and ownership of their land.
The events of the Land Day include a series of activities that carried out by many Palestinian institutions ranging from awareness lectures to public discussion of the anniversary, as well as exhibitions, gatherings, posters, and artistic and artistic evenings, and documented the Palestinian right to self-determination and land.
