The Fall of Fashion's Polyvore
Have you ever wanted to express who you are through fun fashion or simply create something because you wanted to? Just go to Polyvore. Well, actually, don't do that because you can't.
On Thursday April 5, 2018 a company called Ssence acquired Polyvore. This means no more outfits, no more mood boards, no more… Polyvore. “In many cases Polyvore was a place to discover new products and brands They expressed frustration at not being given a heads up and not having an easy way to save the boards they’d created (Polyvore said that users have until May 10 to request a download of their work). One user, Lauren Coates, started a petition to reinstate Polyvore, which has gotten more than 4,600 of its target 5,000 signatures so far” (racked.com).
Ssence is a fashion media and news outlet that you can also buy clothes with. Cool huh? Well you'll love this then, but Polyvore was that and more. You were able to style outfits, blog, style apartments, and create visual products. Anything you wanted to make, Polyvore had it for you. That's why this news is so heartbreaking.
Now me and many other people have to find a new source for creativity. But let's not all be down, no one knows whether Ssense is planning to bring back Polyvore’s tools in some ways, or whether this is really just the end of Polyvore as we know it. If Ssence choses to keep the Polyvore system and allow people to make outfits, moodboards, and layouts, they would essentially be better. If you or a loved one was affected by this shutdown, sign the Twitter petition. Your signature could make a difference!
