New STEMs of Knowledge in the Science Wing!
As we enter into the first month of the 2018-19 school year, Cliffside Park High School older students might take notice to a few brand new faces that have just joined the school. Whether it be the incoming ninth graders that are naturally, still trying to navigate their way around, or new staff members that eagerly await to see what is instore for them, teaching wise here at CPHS.
The new faces start right by the science wing, where students might have caught a glimpse of our new teachers, Mr. Klie and Mrs. Friedman, that proudly now make up part of the science department here at the highschool.
Before becoming one the newest additions to our wonderful staff of science teachers, Rutgers University and William Paterson University was where Mr. Klie spent his college years at, as a Marine Biology Major. Interestingly enough later on, he took his expertise and love for biology down south, to our shores in Cape May, where he was focused on breeding calms and oysters for a little while. Though coming from a family of teachers, Mr. Klie decided to make his way back up North and bring his love for biology, to our classrooms, here at CPHS teaching our newest freshmen. To Mr. Klie, the great working environment with his fellow helpful staff members was what really drew him in. Between his five classes that he teaches, Mr. Klie states, unlike many newcomers, his feelings are the far from nervous, and much more directed towards being excited to see the new faces this year.
Just across the hall, joining Mr. Klie, is now Mrs. Friedman, our other addition to the science department. Mrs. Friedman’s teaching “life” so to speak, started out in 1986, and has been since. Her alma matter, is proudly the State University of Albany, and Queens College, where she interestingly enough, studied Biology, and one of the most difficult languages for one to master, German, quite a unique and fascinating choice of studies. Before starting this school year, Mrs. Friedman’s first impression of the school was simply, that CPHS was incredibly patriotic. Her attention was caught by the impressive amount of American flags that stood proudly on the outside of the building, as well as in the interior. Her interest in Biology, roots from her times as a Park Ranger before her teaching, and her love for Nature. Mrs. Friedman, being no stranger to teaching freshmen and upperclassmen, feels that the air in Cliffside Park High School is relaxed and very encouraging. Mrs. Friedman besides teaching the core in the Science Department, which is Biology, Physical Science and Chemistry, is just simply ready to tackle this year, and eager for success.
Clearly, getting to know both Mrs. Friedman and Mr Klie gives an inside look on who they are, and really show how ready they are to start this 2018-19 school year, and hope it becomes a good one.
