Welcoming Our New Athletics Director
The start of the new school year brings with it a variety of things. From students to teachers, our family here at CPHS is evergrowing. One of the newest members of our community is Mr. Porfido, who is the Athletics Director and Supervisor of Performing Arts for the entire district!
Mr. Porfido was a former Athletics Director, Dean of Students, and technology teacher at the Wood-Ridge Public School District in Wood-Ridge, New Jersey. Mr. Porfido would like everyone to know that upon his arrival to CPHS, he felt very welcomed and excited to be a part of a school with such pride and tradition within the athletics department. Way to go, Raiders!
Although he does not currently teach any classes, he has a very unique, team-oriented approach when it comes to motivating students to get involved in a sport. “Athletics wise, my approach is definitely more education-based. I like the students to be aware of the importance of teamwork and bonding with their coaches.” - Mr. Porfido.
Mr. Porfido entered the teaching industry after a career change, and he feels that his current position is the “perfect fit,” as he is a people person who values interacting with students on a daily basis. So what is his advice for those interested in pursuing a career in his field?
“You have to become very well-rounded, that is for sure. Every job is different, but I would say that learning how to understand people and handle certain situations makes up a big part of what I do everyday,” Mr. Porfido says.
Now you may be asking yourself, how does one person oversee so many responsibilities within the high school and throughout the district? That answer is quite simple, as Mr. Porfido has three daughters of his own, and his hobbies typically include juggling all of their extracurricular activities.
You can always find Mr. Porfido in the Athletics Office in the gym lobby at the high school, where his door is always open to athletes and those who are interested in joining one of the many sports that we offer here at the high school. Go, Raiders!
