CPHS Pays it Forward!
In Mrs. Baskerville’s accounting class last year, we had a project called “Pay It Forward.” Paying it forward means doing something nice for someone and instead of them reciprocating, they would do the same to another person. This is essentially a chain of good deeds.
We started off the assignment by watching the movie “Pay It Forward” to get some inspiration and the amount of ideas the students had were through the roof. Some examples of other projects are donating clothes, donating blood, helping a homeless man get a job, purchasing a goat for a family in a less fortunate country through Heifer International. It could even be little things like giving up a seat on the bus, shoveling snow or mowing a neighbor’s lawn.
My group and I raised over 20,000 grains of rice on freerice.com, which is a nonprofit organization that gives countries in need 10 grains of rice for every question answered correctly. The subjects ranged from algebra to German. Along with students from other periods, we raised over 80,000 grains.
It was an all around success and we even got to be on WBLS 107.5, a radio station with Bob Lee. He visited our school and we recorded our segment, which was heard all over the tri-state area. We challenged all schools to pay it forward and now I want to challenge all you readers to pay it forward too!
