NJ DECA COLT Conference
On October 17th, the Cliffside Park High School DECA Club attended the DECA COLT Conference at Kean University. DECA conferences are targeted, highly-focused learning experiences for students and advisors that support National Curriculum Standards and the development of 21st Century Skills.
All the officers/leaders in every DECA program were encouraged to attend this conference to apply the new information to their club. The CPHS DECA Officers for the 2018-2019 school year are Alejandro Ramos, President, Lia Victoria, Vice President of Community Service Projects, Maria Cancino, Vice President of Competitive Events, Ana Lisanin and Caterina Carrieri, Vice Presidents of Public Relations, Ivan Hilario, Officer of Finance, and Chamber Cruz, Officer of Hospitality.
The conference focused on chapter leadership training; however, the event made it a fun environment. During the day, we did numerous activities to help ourselves become better officers. We did a lot of networking, bonding with other teams, brainstorming, and planning. It was a great experience to work with members from different schools and plan events for the new year.
We were able to meet other chapters and share fundraising methods and ways to recruit new members. If we heard an idea we liked, any officer on the team could bring it back and implement it in our chapter! Together our chapters were able to help each other become stronger!
DECA is a club that focuses on the fundamentals of business and marketing while using everyday skills. The COLT Conference helped our team train our leadership roles and improve make our club. We were able to learn more about our positions to become better leaders to help DECA expand and become better. The CPHS DECA Club had a blast and we are so excited for this year!
