Introducing the Wellness Club

The Wellness Club was introduced by a brand new face in the guidance department, Ms. Romano. This club aims to teach students about mindfulness and dealing with mental health and awareness, but the club is open to all!

The Wellness Club is a great way to maintain mental stability for any students dealing with any mental health issues, while also taking a look at the importance of physical and emotional health. The Club has made great strides throughout the school year already, such as the positive post-it notes on the lockers and having a mental health advocate come in.

The club’s acknowledgement of the week of respect was another great success. These days, students are dealing with great amounts of stress and anxiety, whether personal or school-related. The Wellness Club stressed the importance of the Week of Respect by creating a plan to write motivational notes on each student and staff members’ lockers. The goal was to bring up everyone’s attitude and lift their spirits, not only towards school, but also towards their own self-image. Introducing more of these uplifting projects will not only help in improving mental health, but may also aid in enhancing students’ academic performance.

This past Friday, the Wellness Club gave students the opportunity to hear Scott Pendergast’s story and his personal struggles with mental health, thanks to the organization, Minding Your Mind. Mr. Pendergast was vulnerable in front of the students and faculty, inspiring students, many becoming emotional as he told his story. It was an effective way to show students that whatever they are going through, no matter how troublesome, they are never alone. Even though some students might feel isolated and trapped, they may now recognize the fact that there is help out there, they just have to be willing and able to accept it. Scott Pendergast’s speech, as well as the post-it notes are just a couple of the many remarkable ways that the Wellness Club has shown the importance of mental health in the span of one month.
