Ms. Lim Joins the Math Team

As the year progresses, we welcome new faces into the CPHS family. This year our school has welcomed our newest math teacher, Ms. Lim! She is very excited to be joining a new school and having the opportunity to educate amazing students. Growing up, Ms. Lim’s favorite subject was math since it was easy, enjoyable, and fun for her. She also loved how there was always a clear right or wrong answer.

Ms. Lim attended to Mahwah High School and was a studious student. After high school, she went to Montclair State University with the aspirations of becoming a pediatrician. After some time in the medical and biology field, she felt that it was overwhelming. She then discovered that she appreciated the more straightforward concepts that math offered. Math came to be her favorite subject prompting her to change her career entirely into teaching math to the next generation of mathematicians.

Not only does Ms. Lim have a strong personal passion for teaching math, she was also inspired by her highschool and college professors. When she went to college, her professor was teaching the material in a way that she fell in love with. No one ever taught her math that way so she was inspired to teach others something new. Ms. Lim has been teaching math for four and a half years so far and is loving it. She especially loves teaching at Cliffside Park High School since, as she said, “The students and staff are very nice and hard working.” Not only does she have a passion for teaching math at our school, but she is fascinated with all the sports that we have to offer, as she likes to fish and participate in outdoor activities.

In the future, she wishes to attend all the sports events and witness her students excel both academically and athletically. Ms. Lim teaches geometry and a class for ESL students, consisting of pre-algebra and algebra.

She enjoys teaching ESL classes because growing up, she was an ESL student as well. Due to this, she can understand what these students are going through and knows the most efficient way to help them learn. She knows well that it is hard to learn something in a new language, but she likes to help and inspire them as best as she can.

Like all teachers, she has a unique way of teaching math. She likes to give students rewards if they participate or get good grades. She finds that playing math games and teamwork are the best way to get them engaged in math. She feels that her teaching technique is more hands on rather than straightforward formulas, causing them to remember and understand more. As Ms. Lim continues her teaching journey, she would like her students to work hard and know that they should feel comfortable asking questions.
