JV and Varsity Boys Soccer Team: Counties for JV and States for Varsity

Game after game, win after win, both the Varsity and Junior Varsity Boys Soccer teams fill the bleachers with spectators showing Raider pride. Both teams have come a very long way in recent seasons, possibly the farthest they have gone in the last few years.

The varsity team earned the #1 Seed in the 2019 NJSAA North Jersey Section 2 Group 3 Tournament. The varsity boys also finished off their season with a record of 18-2-1. When it came to qualifying for leagues, despite their best efforts, the boys lost their first game against Bergen Catholic 3-2 in double overtime. Although they lost the first game of leagues, they continued to play hard in their state games. The boys worked hard winning 1-0 against Nutley in double overtime and 3-1 against Summit, but fell to Millburn in penalty kicks.

While the varsity team continued to thrive throughout their season, so did the junior varsity team with a record of 15-1-1. For the first time in quite some time, the junior varsity boys qualified for the 2019 Bergen County Boys Soccer Tournament. The boys defeated Pascack Valley 2-1 in overtime, followed by Northern Highlands 4-1, and Don Bosco 2-1 in overtime. Although they worked hard, they went through a devastating loss at the county tournament final against Ridgewood with a 5-0 loss.

The soccer success for CPHS did not end there though, even the freshman team made it to leagues. They finished off their season with a record of 6-4-2, but suffered a 3-2 loss against Pascack Hills in the Freshman County Tournament.

Despite their losses, the teams were also awarded for all the hard work they put in. The Varsity team was presented with their undefeated Big North American Division Championship plaque. Sophomore Cristian Argueta, the varsity goalkeeper, was awarded with Male Athlete of the Week with 15 shutouts during the season. Also, Coach Cambareri was named the Big North American Division Coach of the Year for Boys Soccer. Soccer season may have ended in a way that not many of them had hoped, but they will come back even stronger next year!
