Competition Cheer: An Interview with Coach Asto
Question 1: Who are your captains?
Coach Asto: We do not have captains, but the seniors tend to lead the team.
Question 2: Who are your returning star players?
Coach Asto: The returning star players are our seniors: Kenneth, Valentina, Talia, Genesis, Isabella, and Jessica.
Question 3: What makes a good leader for your team?
Coach Asto: What makes a good leader for the team is someone who is responsible, cares for the whole team, as well as assists and motivates everyone.
Question 4: What is the best thing about your sport and/or coaching it?
Coach Asto: The best thing about cheer is that \it builds good morale and the team members are great model student athletes, doing great in both academics as well as cheer.
Question 5: What makes your sport unique?
Coach Asto: I think what makes cheer unique in comparison to other sports is that it involves tumbling and it allows for more communication, leading to very close bonds.
Question 6: Where do you expect the team to rank this season?
Coach Asto: I am hoping that the team wins as many meets as possible, and I would love to see the team win the Big North Competition.
Question 7: What are you and the team working on at practices?
Coach Asto: During practice, we are working on the competition routines, which involve stunting, gymnastics, and dance.
Question 8: What expectations do you have for your players?
Coach Asto: The expectations I have for the players are for them to hit their stunts and perform as well as I know they can.
Question 9: What do you want your players to take away from the season?
Coach Asto: I want my players to understand that nothing in life comes easy unless you put in the hard work to achieve what you want.
