CPHS Is In Sync!!
Who knew our very own Cliffside Park High School housed so much talent? Last Friday, the Class of 2021 hosted the second annual Lip-Sync battle between all four grades. Given the gigantic success, and ticket sales of last year's production, both advisers saw the opportunity to keep it going for it’s second year.
This contest is meant to bring the art of lip-syncing and acting together. Participants must selects songs of their choice, and truly bring them to life on stage. Some of this year’s participants included freshman duo Leslie Roca and Deisy Chuta and sophomore trio Nevaeh Cabrera, Jasmin Garcia, and Andrea Pulgarin.
The Junior class really showed up in this year’s battle. Some of the juniors who took the stage included Sean Martinez, Jefferson Gonzalez, and Raymond Spahiu. The class of 2021 had about 3 groups competing for the win. This year’s seniors also made an appearance, with Jessica Stomber and Kenneth Perdomo representing the class of 2020!
Now, setting aside the students, the teacher groups seemed to give them a run for their money. Coming up as a runner up last year, Mr. Sherwood returned more determined than ever for the Lip Sync Champ Trophy. His opening act began with his lip sync rendition of pop 80’s song “Gimmie Gimmie” by ABBA. Though as the night came to an end, the duo that had really stolen the show was Mr. Aiello and Ms. Vazquez-Salvatierra with their show-stopping lip sync performance of “A Whole New World” from Disney’s Aladdin. Their authentic and seamless performances, along with original outfits fit for the show are what lead them to the top. Their rendition of “I want to be a billionaire” added to their incredible first performance which lead the judges to name them Lip Sync Champs.
Some of the other great songs that were performed were “Hotline Bling” “Diamonds” and the most popular among the audience, the Spongebob Squarepants theme song. All in all, this year’s show definitely grew last year’s tradition with a whopping 171 tickets sold. This was an amazing production put on by the Class of 2021, as it brought laughter and enjoyment on a Friday at CPHS.
