Kobe Bryant’s Legacy
On January 26, 2020, nine innocent people were killed in a terrible helicopter crash in the city of Calabasas, California. Among those people were basketball legend, Kobe Bryant, and his 13-year old daughter, Giavanna Bryant. The pair were on their way to the Mamba Sports Academy, traveling by helicopter as they typically did so that Kobe could return home in time to spend quality time with his wife and three other daughters.
When the horrific news of Kobe’s death broke out, fans were devastated. The news of his passing left many heartbroken, but none more than his wife and daughters. Those who had passed in the helicopter accident were memorialized by thousands, with the Staples Center and the Super Bowl being the most popular of the memorial venues.
Fellow basketball players, celebrities, and those close to Kobe Bryant quickly took to social media to pay their respects to the star and his teenage daughter, Gia. Although Kobe’s shocking passing left many in tears, he also left behind a legacy. Kobe Bryant was one of the few NBA players to stay with his team, the Los Angeles Lakers, for twenty years. He won five championships, two Final MVPs, 15 All-NBA teams, 18-time All-Star, and the list goes on. Due to Kobe’s numerous achievements, many consider him to be a ‘basketball legend’. One of Kobe’s many famous quotes goes as follows: “The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great at whatever they want to do,” and Kobe did just that.
Throughout his life, Kobe Bryant influenced and encouraged people to strive for greatness. His death was nothing short of a tragedy, as fans and young generations looked up to Bryant. The lives of those lost in the accident will undoubtedly change many lives forever. Kobe Bryant was a loving father, husband, coach, mentor, teammate, and friend to many, and he will be missed dearly. As the legend himself once said, “Life is too short to get bogged down and be discouraged. You have to keep moving. You have to keep going”.
