Layton Greene: The R&B Singer-Songwriter on the Rise

Who is Layton Greene?

From the streets of East St. Louis, Illinois, Layton Greene, a sultry R&B singer-songwriter, has made her debut as a budding star. The 21-year-old has already made quite the name for herself, accomplishing much in spite of a tumultuous past. Greene recounts her personal battles in a series of deeply moving ballads that walk listeners through the life of this rising star.

In her 7-song EP, Layton Greene defines what it means to be vulnerable, describing the times in her life when she felt as though the world had turned its back on her. From bouts of homelessness to heartbreak, Greene leaves little out of her lyrics.

Layton Greene’s Claim to Fame

In 2017, Layton posted a remix of Kodak Black’s “Roll in Peace” on social media. Her remix was an instant hit, gaining over 3.5 million plays on SoundCloud in the first month of its release. Layton later signed with Quality Control/Capitol Records in February of 2019, releasing the single “Leave Em Alone” soon after. The single made it to #1 on YouTube Music’s “R&B on the Rise.” At this point in her career, Layton has amassed an impressive 350 million global streams.

Despite a tough upbringing and having been rejected by both the X-Factor and America’s Got Talent, Greene never lost sight of becoming a professional singer. Layton Greene always believed that she was destined for a life of fame, discovering her passion for singing at the young of seven.

What’s New?

With the release of her latest EP, Tell Ya Story, Layton hoped to give listeners a formal introduction into who she is, not only as an artist, but as a person. Layton’s voice is the only one that you will hear on the extended play, a move intended to give listeners’ a chance to hear from the artist herself. On the first track, “Blame On Me”, Layton took the time to focuses on the defining moments of her childhood, which she feels are responsible for molding her into the person she is today. Her third song,“I Love You”, reveals the nature of a toxic relationship that ultimately ended in heartbreak.

If you are a fan of R&B/Soul music, then Layton Greene might just be the artist for you. Layton’s sound and style is comparable to popular vocalist Summer Walker, among other artists like Anne Maria, Inayah, and Mulatto.
