Rosaly Gomez

On Tuesday, October 4th, Aaron Judge made history with the New York Yankees. Aaron Judge scored

his sixty-second home run of the 2022 MLB season, securing a victory against the Texas Rangers.

Aaron Judge is a thirty-year-old American who plays for the New York Yankees baseball team as an outfielder. He was selected to play for the Yankees in 2013. After graduating from Linden High School where he played baseball, basketball, and football, Judge received several offers to play football for some of the nation’s top colleges. He

declined, and continued to play baseball for the Fresno State Bulldogs Baseball team at California State University. Shortly after college, he was admitted into the MLB.

All of his past career successes led to his record breaking home run score this year. Judge’s major accomplishment was scored during the first inning of an away game in Arlington, Texas against the Texas Rangers. Prior to his win, Roger Maris held the winning record of sixty-one home runs in a season. He held this record for over sixty-years.

This record led to several controversies across the internet. Various people believe Aaron Judge is not deserving of his title “Home Run King.” The MLB home run record was beaten various times by several baseball players including Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa. The greatest score of seventy-three home runs by Barry Bonds in 2001. T

he accomplishments of those prior to Judge are often overlooked and discredited because of their alleged drug usage. Despite being one of the greatest baseball players, Barry Bonds was not admitted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame due to his rumored usage of steroids. However, to this day many fans believe he is the true “Home Run King.” Others believe Aaron Judge deserves this title.

In a recent interview Aaron Judge stated he will continue to pursue the Major League and National League record of seventy-three home runs a season. Personally, I can’t wait for the future of this MLB star! Do you think Aaron Judge is the new home run king or should the work of Barry Bonds and other players remain credited?
