Bowling Q&A
Written by: Rosaly Gomez
The 2022–2023 Cliffside Park High School bowling season has begun! Recently, I had the opportunity to interview Coach Woodley. We discussed the new season, key elements of the team, and the rapport among the players.
Where are the matches held?
The team’s matches are held at Bowler City in Hackensack.
Who are your team captains?
The captain of the girl’s bowling team is Karen Estrada. Currently, the boys do not have a team captain.
Who are your returning star players?
This season, our returning star players are Wendy Palaguachi and Karen Estrada.
What makes a good leader for your team?
They must have the Raider spirit of positivity. Also, they must be able to articulate adjustments for success. This ensures that the team improves and pushes forward.
What is the best thing about your sport and/or coaching it?
We support each other. As a team, we work together for every player to grow with each game.
What makes your sport unique?
Bowling functions as both a team and individual sport with varied forms of success. It is also a sport that many don't play, so players are open to learn.
Where do you expect the team to rank this season?
The boys are rebuilding. The girls will be middle of the pack.
What are you and the team working on in practices?
In practice, we are working on spare shots and fluidity with strong follow through.
What expectations do you have for your players?
I expect my players to always have an open mind and a willingness to learn.
What do you want your players to take away from the season?
Intentional practice pays off.
Thank you to Coach Woodley for contributing to today’s article. I look forward to following the successes of the bowling team this season. The CPHS Courier wishes them good luck. Go raiders!
