What makes a good leader for your team?
A good leader leads by example, both on and off the field. A leader is committed to the program and helping teammates improve.
What is the best thing about your sport and coaching it?
The best thing about this sport is that it can be very unpredictable. Soccer is a sport that is known worldwide. Soccer players perform with passion. The best part about coaching this sport is seeing kids improve and become the best player possible. I also enjoy witnessing relationships form and strengthen. Relationships get built throughout the season, allowing random kids to unite and become a team.
What makes your sport unique?
Soccer is unique because it is a collaborative effort. You need your teammates, coaches, and staff members to play their roles to be successful!
Where do you expect the team to rank this season?
We do not worry about rankings. We hope to improve every practice, build character, and take pride in our program.
What are you and the team working on in practice?
In practice, we are working on playing as a team and understanding positioning and tactics.
What expectations do you have for your players?
My expectation for the players is to come and work hard every day. We are not just looking for exceptional soccer players. We want good, young individuals who want to be successful.
What do you want your players to take away from the season?
I want my players to have no regrets. At the end of the season, I want them to look back and think, "I gave it all I had. I am happy with my performance and what I contributed to my teammates and the program."
Girls Soccer
Coach: Ms. Cibelli
What makes a good leader for your team?
A good leader leads by example. Leadership is about how you carry yourself on and off the field. A leader needs to be vocal—but in their own way. Sometimes it is vocally commanding, and sometimes it is through actions. I hold my leaders to high standards because they are the team's pulse.
What is the best thing about your sport and coaching it?
I've played this sport since I was able to walk. It has become a part of who I am. I want to infuse my passion for soccer into my players and guide them to their true potential. I hope to instill in them the foundations of character, integrity, and teamwork.
What makes your sport unique?
Soccer is unique because of the level of fitness you need as well as tactical touch. Players can not use their hands (only keepers.) This component makes it more challenging than other sports. The aspect of teamwork makes it interesting also. There are individual battles during the game; however, putting it together to defend and score allows for a complete team game.
Where do you expect the team to rank this season?
My goal is to be .500 and to make a run at the league championship. This goal is achievable. I want the girls to enjoy and get comfortable playing with a lead. The team hopes to make both the county and state tournament.
What are you and the team working on in practice?
Conditioning is one of the most important things. It is crucial to have the stamina to finish the game. While our opponents get tired and run out of gas, we can capitalize and defend. A tactic like this can place us in the lead. I also try to run practices where they can work with technique and play the ball to themselves--whether it's a volley, a head, or a chest. We also incorporate tactics involving different game situations, such as keeping the offense together to play against the defense. Tactics like this allow both sides of the ball to get better.
What expectations do you have for your players?
My players are student-athletes. However, they are students first. They must stay on top of their schoolwork. I also expect them to come together as a team. My players must pick each other up as well as celebrate with each other.
What do you want your players to take away from the season?
I want my players to realize that hard work pays off. I also want them to experience and understand the commitment to something bigger than themselves. I hope they become leaders off the field as well.
