Cliffside Park’s girl's tennis team is in full swing, having already had one scrimmage against Union City on Friday, September 25th. Here is everything you need to know the tennis team’s goals and plans for the 2020 season.

Q:Who are this season's team captains?

A: Once we complete rankings, we will choose the top two players to be our captains.

Q: Can you go over your ranking process?

A: In order to properly rank our players, every player on the team needs to play one another. The two teammates play an abbreviated game and the results are tallied. At the end of the entire tournament, all scores are added. The player with the most points overall would be considered #1 on the team.

Q: What are your goals for this season?

A: The goals this season are primarily to be safe and to enjoy the game. We are grateful to even have a season and our level of appreciation of even the smallest things has greatly increased. The goal is for everyone to get an opportunity to play in a safe and enriching environment.

Q: How are the players and coaches adjusting to coronavirus precautions?

A: We have relied heavily on technology. We have hosted virtual workouts, meetings, and even game nights to keep everyone's spirits up. Next, we have taken every precaution on the courts. Masks are strictly enforced on and off the court. We take everyone's temp and the results are documented. Before we even step foot on the court, EVERYONE must complete a COVID-19 health survey. Although the level of paperwork and tech has increased, we are really proud to say that the team has remained safe from Summer practice until now starting the Fall season.

Q: Schedule for upcoming games? Scrimmages?

A: We have a full schedule for the Varsity Team playing nearby towns such as Fort Lee and Ridgefield. Our one and only scrimmage was scheduled for Friday 09/25. The JV team will be having an at-home tournament for the season beginning the week of 09/28. Due to COVID-19, we will not be hosting home/away JV games with other schools.

Q: Upcoming fundraising events?

A: We have put together a Tennis Gear Online shop! Stay tuned for details. From hoodies, to beanies, to sweatpants, we will be selling gear all year.

Q: Any graduating seniors you would like to mention?

A: Yes! Chiara Espinal, Astrid Flores Estrada, Sofia Martinez, Jade Elias Estrada, and Katherine Saravia! Congrats on your final year of HS, and I'm so happy you have a tennis season to enjoy!

Q: Expectations for your players?

A: Do your best, stay safe, be smart, and be respectful. We always want to be the model school who plays fair.

Q: How often do you practice?

A: During rankings, we have been practicing every day.
