Interview with Coach Cibelli

Written by: Julianna Oriente

As the softball season quickly approaches, many look forward to the season. With a new head coach, the program is being introduced to a lot of changes. I had some questions for Coach Cibelli as she prepares for the new season.

1.What are some things that you can bring to CPHS softball that separate you from other coaches?

I have been coaching softball on different levels since I've graduated. I also was a walk-on at Marist College, a DI program. We were MAAC Champs and played in the NCAA tournament, against the eventual champs: Arizona and the USA National Team coach. I was also a captain on a team that lost in the championship of the MAAC tournament.

2.What are some goals for this season you would like the team to accomplish?

Every coach wants to win. However, this is my first year coaching softball here. I want to focus on building the program and providing an experience for these girls where they can excel and grow. I want them to come together as a team.

3.What are some expectations you have for your players?

I want them to come to practice with a good work ethic and a willingness to be pushed to their limits. They need to work together as a team. Most importantly, I want them to have fun.

4.What inspired you to step in and lead the team?

I am a teacher here, as well as the head girls soccer coach. Understanding the school culture and community can only help motivate these girls to want to play a sport. Also, I wanted to build a rapport with these girls and function as a role model. They interact with me as both a teacher and a coach, in an academic and extracurricular setting.

5. What’s some good advice for people who want to try out?

Come with an open mind and a willingness to work hard and learn. We are building a program. If you want to be part of something special, be ready to work and be pushed towards growth.
