Interview with the Boys Tennis Team
Written by: Rosaly Gomez
The 2023 Boys Tennis Team season is currently undergoing. I was able to speak with Coach Kvesic regarding how the season is going.
Who are your captains?
Julian Barreto & Joey Moon
Who are your returning star players?
Our Captains and our First Doubles Players Matthew Lazo & Bryan Tun.
What makes a good leader for your team?
An individual that can lead by example and help younger players in developing their technique and practicing good sportsmanship.
What is the best thing about your sport and/or coaching it?
It is a great opportunity to interact with current/former students outside the classroom. Since it’s a small group of students we get to know everyone quite well.
What makes your sport unique?
There is a great deal of individuality and personal accountability in the sport. It is also the only High School sport that I can think of where players are the referees during the match. Which can be challenging if teams don't practice good sportsmanship or an honor system.
Where do you expect the team to rank this season?
Second in our division & we hope to improve our overall record from last year.
What are you and the team working on in practice?
Accuracy and consistency in our serves & up the net drills.
What expectations do you have for your players?
I would expect them to foster a fun & competitive environment that helps the sport grow in our High School.
What do you want your players to take away from the season?
The wins, defeats, and good times they experienced throughout the season. Student athletes develop grit and memories while playing tennis, and those experiences stay with them always.
Thank you to Coach Kvesic for collaborating on today's article. I am happy to hear that the Tennis season is going well. Good luck to the team in future matches. Go raiders!
