Met Gala

On May first, twenty-twenty three, the 75th Met Gala occurred. The Met Gala took place at The Metropolitan Museum of Art located in New York, New York. Here is everything that happened at this year’s Met Gala.
What is the Met Gala? The Met Gala is an event where many celebrities gather together at the MET to raise money for the Costume Institution. The Met Gala first began in the year nineteen forty-eight. It was hosted by Lambert. It originally began as a way to fundraise for the Costume Institution. From 1948 until 1971 the Met Gala was not held in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Instead, it was held in Central Park, The Rainbow Room, and Waldorf Astoria. Fast forward to twenty twenty-three, the Met Gala has become one of the biggest fundraiser events in New York City. They have raised over $175 million dollars. But it wasn’t until Vogue’s chief editor joined the Costume Institution in 1972 that the Met Gala became a big social event.
So how did this year’s Met Gala go down? This year’s theme was “in honor of Karl.” The theme was chosen as a way to commemorate the late Karl Lagerfeid, a famous designer who tragically passed away in 2019. He was Chanel’s long-time creative director. Many famous celebrities such as Gigi Hadid, the Kardasian-Jenners, and Paris Hilton attended the event. Dua Lipa attended the event wearing a 1992 Chanel dress originally worn by model Claudia Schiffer. Kim Kardashian wore a Schiaparelli dress covered in pearls. Singer Billie Eilish wore a black gown created by Simone Rocha. Doja Cat wore Oscar de la Renta and played tribute to Karl Lagerfeid’s cat, Choupette. Another one who paid tribute to Karl’s cat was singer and actor Jared Leto who arrived in a head to toe fur suit.
Who was your favorite look of the night? Who else would you have liked to see at this year’s Met Gala?
