Paris Fashion Week

Karen Rodriguez Blanco

Paris Fashion Week started on Monday, February 28, 2022, and ended Tuesday, March 8, 2022. Paris Fashion Week consists of designers and brands presenting their new collections for winter/fall and summer/spring. This event occurs two times a year since it started in 1973.

The idea for Paris Fashion Week began with designers like Charles Worth and Paul Poreit because they wanted to present their designs and ideas. They also took inspiration from another designer named Lady Duff- Gordon who had started doing similar shows in London. This idea started at the beginning of the 1900s, with work being shown only in lavish balls to exclusive clients. Even though this idea began in the years before the World Wars, the first official fashion show was held in 1973. The show had big-name brands and designers like Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Oscar de la Renta and more representing NY fashion. The first event was a fundraiser to restore the Palace of Versailles and was a challenge for the Versailles Fashion show, and in this fight, it showed the tensions between Paris and New York fashion. This is just a fraction of the fashion history that has taken place at Paris Fashion Week, as covered by Vogue Magazine.

The current shows, held in February and March of 2022, highlighted new collections for fall/winter of 2022 through 2023. Even though these events have a lot of publicity, not everyone can attend the shows, invitees are mostly celebrities and the wealthy. These events always show what will be trending for the next year, having a significant impact in the Fashion World.
