Q&A With CPHS Bowling Coach Woodley
Q. Who are your captains this season?
A. Captains haven't been named yet.
Q. Who are your returning star players?
A. Aavinaash Rampersad, who made it all the way to the state individual competition last year, is back with us this season. Fintan Ludy, who showed great improvement last year, has also returned with new skills and confidence.
Q. What makes a good leader for your team?
A. A good leader is someone who supports their teammates, focuses on personal goals for improvement and keeps a positive attitude.
Q. What makes your sport unique?
A. It functions as both a team and individual sport at the same time. Also, all four teams play at the same time, so the JV players get a chance to work with and learn from varsity a lot.
Q. What is the best thing about your sport and/or coaching it?
A. The best thing about bowling is that it is a sport you can play throughout life, so it is really something students can carry with them.
Q. Where do you expect the team to rank this season?
A. Due to covid, I am not sure how this season will play out, we are hoping to be competitive with a number of boys returning, but we also have a bunch of new players.
Q. What are you and the team working on in practices?
A. The experienced players are working to get back in their groove, focusing on ten pins and strike shots. The new players are focused on form and approach.
Q. What expectations do you have for your players?
A. I expect them to do their best and to develop a new skill or thought process each time they step on the lanes.
Q. What do you want your players to take away from the season?
A. This season, I want them to have fun and get back to participating in something that isn't online. I also hope that all the players come to appreciate the sport.
Q. How do you and your team plan on adjusting to the restrictions posed by COVID-19?
A. Because bowling is a non-cardio sport, all players will be masked at all times. The league has determined that there cannot be spectators and the form of the game has changed to keep our teams and equipment separate during games. Any potential fans will be able to see games that have been uploaded through CP Athletics to YouTube.
