Q&A With CPHS’ Boys Soccer Coach, Carmine Cambareri
Saly Moubayed
It’s soccer season! For this season, Mr. Cambareri sits down with me to discuss the boys’ soccer team.
Who are your captains?
Our captains are Justin Rua and Gerson Gonzalez.
Who are your returning star players?
We have many star players on our team. Our players understand their roles and always do what is best for the team.
What makes a good leader for your team?
A good leader motivates their teammates to be the best they can be, leading by example.
What is the best thing about your sport and/or coaching it?
The best thing about this sport is that it brings people together. The sport revolves around teamwork. In order to be successful, the players need to rely on and trust their teammates. I love coaching soccer because I get to build a lot of memories. As a coach, you learn something new every day through the connections you make with your team.
What makes your sport unique?
This sport is unique because you never know what can happen. In soccer, the best team does not always win.
Where do you expect the team to rank this season?
Our expectations are always high, so we are aiming to be top three in our section.
What are you and the team working on in practice?
We are always working on improving fundamental skills and growing as a team. Each practice is based on performances from the games before or preparing for who we play next.
What expectations do you have for your players?
The expectations I have for my players are to show up every day, work hard, be good people and teammates, and have no regrets when it's all done.
What do you want your players to take away from the season?
I want my players to learn many life lessons during the season. Most importantly, I want them to make a lot of good memories. I want them to realize that high school sports fly by, and there are not many opportunities to experience what they are experiencing now.
Thank you to Coach Cambareri for his time. We wish the Boys Soccer Team luck in all their upcoming games! COME SEE THEM PLAY TODAY on the high school field in their first STATE GAME!
