The Batting Cage Dedication for Ben Luderer

In honor of Ben Luderer, The Cliffside Park Education Association (CPEA) hosted a ceremony on May 22nd, 2020, on a newly built batting cage dedicated to Luderer. The ceremony had a BBQ and a kickball game in his memory.

The COVID-19 Pandemic has affected every community in New Jersey, including the Cliffside Park community. The early months of 2020, combined with the rising cases of COVID-19, created an uneasy situation for everyone to endure while working at home. A tragedy occurred on March 30, 2020 when Ben Luderer, a baseball coach and Special Education teacher for Cliffside Park School #6, was confirmed to have passed away due to COVID-19 at the age of 30. This unexpected and unfortunate event occurred during a world-changing event and shook the Cliffside Park community.

Ben Luderer was well-known for being a big part of the community of Cliffside Park as he was the coach of Red Raiders baseball team. Luderer was a former athlete for Don Bosco Prep’s team as a catcher before moving to Cliffside Park. He was known for his dedication to baseball and players, always helping the team grow through practices, lessons, and guidance. Luderer was also a well-known and well-loved teacher of Special Education for Cliffside Park School #6. With so many accomplishments within the community, the town shared in mourning when his life was cut short due to Covid-19. The unexpected event showed early on in the COVID-19 pandemic that the virus could affect anyone, regardless of age.

No matter what happens, Ben Luderer will never be forgotten by the hearts of everyone in the Cliffside Park community.
