The Buffalo Shooting

Ten African Americans were shot and killed by a white 18-year-old man at Tops Friendly Market in Buffalo, New York, just a few weeks ago on May 14th. The gunman, Payton Gendron, was charged with first-degree murder.
The massacre began in the parking lot, where four people outside of the grocery store were shot and three of the four were killed. Gendron then exchanged gunfire with a security guard and entered the grocery store where he shot eight more individuals.
He live-streamed his attacks on Twitch. In the video, he apologized to a white man hiding behind a register and spared him. Twitch took down the video in under two minutes.
Gendron resided in Conklin, New York with his family, which is a town about 4 hours away and 200 miles southeast of Buffalo.
Further evidence shows that Gendron was released from a psychiatric facility just before graduating high school in 2021. He had stated that he planned to commit a “murder-suicide” but told officials that he was joking. He legally purchased the AR-15 firearm used in the shooting.
Authorities found his online diary on Discord, where he wrote about his plans for this mass shooting, giving law enforcement the evidence needed to show his intent. Discord removed the diary when it was discovered. Gendron allegedly stated online that the Buffalo shooting was meant to drive non-white people who were not Christian away from the United States.
On May 19th, Gendron was indicted by a grand jury on charges of first-degree murder. He pleaded not guilty but will face a life sentence without parole if convicted. He is currently being held in custody without bail and under suicide watch. Gendron will reappear in court on June 9th.
