The Controversy of Andrew Tate

American-British media personality, businessman, and former kickboxer Andrew Tate made headlines after being detained in Romania for a human trafficking investigation.
Andrew Tate became popular in the summer of 2022, as many of his controversial interviews began trending on Tiktok.
Andrew Tate is known for being a guest on many well-known podcasts and television shows. He is asked questions about his beliefs and morals pertaining to women and men. He discusses loyalty, standards, masculinity, and dating. Many of Tate’s reasons for his beliefs are extremely questionable, making his interviews gain views. Some of Tate’s controversial quotes include:
“If you have a man you genuinely like and you actually want to keep him happy, the way you think about it is: how can I increase the status of this man? How can I make him be perceived more positively in the eyes of his peers? How can I make other men look at him and be jealous of him? That's how you act.”
As explained above, Tate believes the way women can keep a man happy in a heterosexual relationship is helping her partner make men jealous. He is denoting that a man’s self value and worth should come from the opinions of other men. His partner should help foster this jealousy and pride.
Another moral he says to live by is: “Life isn’t about winning or losing as a man. Sometimes life is about simply fighting anyway, standing up and doing what you're supposed to do, even if you know there is no chance of victory. That’s what true manhood is. It’s easy to be brave when you have hope…When you have no hope at all, that's when all true bravery is shown.” Within this moral, Tate is said to believe that true manhood doesn’t rely on the hands of others and how they view you. Instead, how you view yourself and a man’s actions in a time of need dictate manhood. His first quote explains that women provide men with security. His second quote explains that men’s own reactions to tough situations is what provides men with true manhood.
“I think women are people with thoughts and feelings. I think they are beautiful creatures. And I think that no life as a man, no matter how successful and rich you are, will be complete without a strong, loyal woman by your side. I think that the love of a woman is one of the most important things a man could try and solicit from life.” Tate does have comments that resemble the one above, which at times contradict his own words. When explaining how a man should “handle a girl,” he explains , “You cheater, you cheated. It’s bang out of the machete, boom in her face, then grip her up by the neck. SHUT UP B***H!”. Tate believes that the love of a woman is one of the biggest blessings that a man can receive in the world, just as long as he handles her correctly. He shows that violence is a good method to get a woman to act in a man’s liking. If she is not acting in a manner he believes is proper, his respect for “beautiful creatures” goes out of the window.
Tate’s own opinions and beliefs are seen to contradict one another again and again. His following is gained through single lines he has said rather than the entirety of his interviews. He clearly is a hypocrite without a true understanding of where he stands on life issues and morals. His popularity should be slightly concerning, and parents of children should be monitoring what their children are watching on social media. Watching social media personalities such as Andrew Tate can have a very huge and dangerous impact on our youth. Being taught that men and women are different and it is okay to go back on your own word will teach children to be liars and unfaithful. Tate’s words and morals are clearly misogynistic, sexist, and violent. Be careful of who you are following and taking advice from, and don’t trust everyone you see online.
